Trees and twisted family branches
I
screwed up today, Ma - Jackie and I felt pretty decent so I asked her to
sweep the floors and I'd focus on the mopping and doing dishes after I
took a load of donates to the thrift store - after my tea of course. I
found a message from cousin David asking about Grandpa's oldest, someone in the tree we know
little about. That led to FB messages back n forth - he's very
interested in family tree stuff so this is exciting. He posted pictures
of Grandma and Grandpa that I don't remember (including one of me when I
was 4). Right in mid reply to him the power went out - while the
computers were running. The power guys were running a line from our
transformer box to the neighbors. Terrific.
I called David to explain why I had disappeared. over an HOUR AND A HALF later we finally ended the calls. You know when I'm on the phone, I pace. I don't know why but I pace or sit leaned back in my chair with my legs up on a sewing table in a weird position - mostly I pace. Used to be absolute irritation before we got walk-around cordless phones! After hanging up with him I looked over the TO DO list for errands cut 2 of them out (I'll do thrift store and feed store Monday). It still meant three stops.

Home
Depot for a flag pole holder, a long closet pole to use as a flag pole,
a water filter for the fridge ($50! Really?), misc. stuff - i.e. one
end of the store to the other. No one is going to tell us that the POW flag is a racist flag that should be taken down.
Walmart - cat food (one end of the store), cheese (other end of the store), a book for jackie's birthday (middle of the store). Wasn't sure I was going to get out of the store because of sudden pain and exhaustion. Then to KFC, her request for her birthday lunch.
Within 2 hours of getting home I was in a hot bath in agony. I don't know why but my back was screaming at me (the pain higher up the spine than usual). After the bath I laid down on my bed and have been here most of the afternoon and evening.
UGH! I understand the baby steps, you try for large steps and get knocked on your tailbone.

It
was fascinating talking to David - he knew some stuff I didn't -
stuff about his mother and his father and I knew quite a bit that he
didn't. He said Uncle George went through and burned every picture,
letter, documents and slides he could get his hands on and when David
asked him to just write down or tape record some basics of his life he
told David to go to hell, spin on something when he got there and George would
be dead before he'd do any such thing. Well, he was dying at the time
and knew it so he was obviously quite serious. David hid one lock box
away from Uncle George and drilled it open after Uncle George was gone -
family photos and a few papers. Nothing earth shattering, no papers
revealing that Uncle George was a Soviet spy, cross-dressing child
molester or even any papers saying he was a Republican.
Weird.
David is going to scan pictures he has and I'm going to scan photos for him, especially ones of you, Mom, he said he doesn't have many. We should probably call our family tree a corkscrew Willow tree, our branches sure twist and spiral in some unique ways!
Did you know that David's mom didn't die of pneumonia like Uncle George said? She got tired of the manic-depressive living and self medicating with alcohol and drugs and checked out with said alcohol and drugs although the certificate cites complications from pneumonia. Or that cousin Bobby didn't contract Hep. C from being a plumber and exposure to fecal matter? He was shooting up in the military and paid for it with his life years later.

What tangled webs we weave....
I know, Mom, you're shaking your head and laughing. You always said we'd be interested in family history stuff one day. Never really thought we would - David and family are carrying on the Carr name so that close family branch isn't going to die out yet. David and Jackie are really into it right now so we should have some large information put together (already have quite a bit).
Trying to wake up a little after reading for a couple of hours. Just took a pain pill so this might be a smidge difficult. LOL
