zombie tank

Hey Ma;

we figured the starter solenoid was going out because of the problem we had getting home Thursday and having to get a jump start at Wal-Mart Saturday, or was that Friday?  Once we got the jump start we got the tank home and quickly disconnected the battery so whatever wiring is screwed up didn't drain the battery.

After Thursday with the relief and then MEGA stress getting home, I was wiped out for a couple of days and physically sick.  Still sick yesterday. Not sure its because I'm having trouble sleeping and we did a lot of physical work last week or I caught a stupid bug - body aches, headache, neck ache, sore throat, upset stomach, etc.  I just couldn't get to O'Riley's to get a new solenoid.

We decided we really needed to get that done today and I talked with them at the shop while Jackie sat in the running car - we were afraid to turn the car off.  The clerk said that it was likely the wiring, especially after driving through the downpour and pond-sized puddles we had. When he heard about the engine compartment formerly housing squirrels and being held together by duck tape, he said it was very likely.  He found a connector with a cutter, stripper and crimping tool - a lot cheaper than a solenoid.

Jackie and I had decided that it might be a good idea to get a portable charger, just to have in the Bronco until we can get the engine and transmission rebuilt.  The transmission is fine but it does have a lot of miles on it and when the money comes through, we're going to get it tended to instead of waiting for it to break down and we might not have the money.

We'll get a decent used car, the tank worked on and bring it back to life instead of nursing the poor corpse into a zombie-like existence.

Chris came by today and he stripped the wire, put the new connector on and covered it with duck tape as a temp holder until we can get to Home Depot and get a nut to hold the connector on.  He's in so much pain all the time and so overworked, it's hard to watch, Mom.  When Jackie's finances get settled we're going to take him and Georgia out to dinner or have a bbq here for them.  They've been so good to us.

He knows a really good mechanic that he trusts - that's something that is always hard to find in a new town.  We'll talk to the guy about the tank.

We got a letter from Penny today, Mom.  As you already know, we lost cousin Berniece the first of July.  It wasn't unexpected by anyone at this point.  Penny didn't tell her that you had left us.

We haven't heard from Polly and Jules but it won't be a surprise when they join you either.
