Karloff Memories

I was watching an episode of Thriller, the old show hosted by Boris Karloff - Masquerade (check it out on YouTube) the one with Elizabeth Montgomery, Tom Posson and John Carradine and remembered something from childhood, Mom.

I was 9 or 10 years old, you had thrown Harley out and we were living with Grandma. You took me to a play (my very first), Arsenic and Old Lace.  I bought one of my first comic books on our way downtown - it was Thriller.  It had a picture of Boris Karloff in the corner.  I hadn't discovered horror movies yet but that opened my eyes to horror comics and then horror movies.

One of the actors looked familiar.   I looked at the actor and down at my comic book and back and pointed it out to Mom – he looked like Boris Karloff.

Then came part of the plot – the villain had plastic surgery to escape the police only the surgeon had made him look like Boris Karloff.

“You shouldn’t have killed him, Johnny!”

“He said I look like Boris Karloff!” Johnny grumbled

“But, Johnny, you DO look like Boris Karloff!”

A memory from my childhood and it’s a good one, Mom.  You might be surprised to learn that a lot of what memories I do have are good ones or ones that point out just how strong you were and how hard it was at times.

Tomorrow I’ll write about the Hound of the Baskervilles!

(edited to make some things a little clearer)
