Day 14, part 1

We're trying a slow cooker recipe today, Ma.

Simple Slow Cooker Pork Chops (Jackie should love these and I'll have a salad and the veggies)

1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed golden mushroom soup
1 (1 ounce) package onion soup mix
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup water
1 onion, sliced
1 (12 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms

4 pork chops

  1. Mix together cream of mushroom soup, golden mushroom soup, onion soup mix, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and water in a slow cooker.
  2. Stir in onion, mushrooms, and potatoes.
  3. Place pork chops in the mushroom mixture, turning to coat both sides.
  4. Cover and cook on Low for 6 hours.
  5. Spoon the mushroom sauce over the pork chops and potatoes for serving.
Two weeks without you, Mom. It hurts like hell.

Going through Wal-Mart I glanced through DVDs (such a surprise, right? Not) and was thinking - oh, Mom wanted to see that one!

I did have an amusing encounter. After getting the dog food and soup a guy approached me, he was going across the parking lot with pamphlets in hand. I took it, glanced at the cover and said, "Hey, no church stuff, I'm Jewish."

Guy looked at me (and my blue eyes) and said, "Uh....."

"I'm Jewish!" I repeated firmly and turned away. I truly expected him to say: "But you don't look Jewish!"

added: I should note that what he was passing out was one of those hateful "Chick tracts" - the ones that attack Jews, Catholics, gays, non-Christians and others.  They are an abomination to Christianity and good Christians.

Lynn called today: they got the package.  She didn't know how to make the Red Hat Grandma work so I expect another phone call or email on that one!  She did have bad news. Audrey's cancer is back and it's not good. We're going to send a supportive card (they sent cards to us when you took sick).

Not easy, Ma, just not easy.

added: food turned out really well.
