Day 2
Mama;
Still numb at times. It is so overwhelming thinking that you won't be with us any longer. How do we do this without you? You've been the center of my life all of my life.
Jackie and I went to the center. Kim and Debbie hadn't told everyone yet. Kim was talking to James outside. He called last night and I broke the news. He's pretty broken up, you are one of his few friends.
We went inside and they broke the news to everyone over the microphone and we went around the place accepting hugs and condolences and sharing memories of you. Everyone remembers your outgoing personality and smile. None of them could believe you were just there 3 weeks ago and weren't sick at all.
We talked with Kim and Debbie about donating that sewing machine and a bunch of the material and help get a quilting thing going. Would that be a good tribute, Mom? We think so. We know it was something you were wanting to do and was excited about the idea. I sensed you were worried your back wouldn't let you get it done. We will do this for you, Mom.
The county is going to help with final things so don't worry about that. Lynn & Jerry and David & Serena have also offered to help and Lynn and Jerry want to take some of your ashes to the top of Deadwood.
Jackie and I weren't sure we could do the string quilt for Chris and Georgia so I'm going to find where you put the centerpiece material and make pillows for them and also do a wood burned project. Lynn's gift is already handled, as you know. I'll do something handmade for David and Nick and we'll mail those with Serena's gift.
Oh Gd, I miss you so much, Mama.
We went through several of the Christmas boxes. I found your Reiki school booklets and we aren't sure what to do with those. We also found very, very old pictures that you had with my graduation picture from the Marine Corps. Wow. We pulled out the ceramic ornaments and we're going to hang them on the wall. Jackie can't handle having a tree right now and that's okay. We're putting out decorations and see how it feels. We're giving ourselves permission to be not okay.
You'd be proud, Jackie is being really strong. I'm the one that breaks down at the drop of a hat. I think she's crying into her pillow at night. She had a good breakdown before she left for home Sat to tend to the critters. We knew you might go at any point and she really said goodbye then.
We're going to pick out a red hat to go with you.
Again, what the hell do we do with all the turtles? Even turtle Christmas ornaments! You asked us what we were going to do and we were clueless. We're still clueless.
I want my mama!
